The cheerful Gerbera is in the top five of most grown flowers

We don't have to tell you that Gerberas are popular as this plant is in the top five of most grown flowers, alongside tulips, roses, chrysanthemums and carnations. Gerbera flowers are so perfect that they look virtually unreal. Did you know that the Gerbera is related to the sunflower and named after German botanist Traugott Gerber?

Bring vibrant colour to your garden by sowing Gerberas

Thanks to their unique beauty, Gerberas enliven the garden with their wonderful colours and are perfect cutting flowers. There is nothing more fun than growing Gerberas yourself from seeds so you can pick them yourself to use in bouquets. Gerberas are not demanding to grow, just ensure that you sow the seeds deep (10 centimetres) in well fertilised soil and not too close to one another. Water them twice a week if it's very hot. Success guaranteed!
