For the spotted flycatchers, black redstarts and wagtails, the box can be hanged less protected by vegetation but they do prefer to be slightly sheltered, for example, underneath an overhang or carport. Don't have the opening facing south-west so the birds are protected against the rain. The best place to hang the nest box is in a sheltered spot.
