Product description
Cerastium tomentosum - Snow-in-summer
Cerastium tomentosum, or snow-in-summer, is a carpeting perennial from the Caryophyllaceae family. Native to southern Europe, it’s grown for its silver-grey foliage and masses of white star-like flowers.
Reaching 15–30 cm in height, it spreads quickly to form silvery mats. From May to July, it’s covered in small, bright white flowers. The felted leaves remain attractive year-round in well-drained, sunny sites.
It’s ideal for borders, rockeries, and dry slopes, where its drought tolerance and reflectivity brighten planting schemes.
Highlights:
• Silvery foliage provides year-round interest
• Prolific summer flowering
• Excellent for dry, sunny areas
Points to consider:
• Can spread aggressively via rhizomes
• Not suited to damp or heavy soils
Snow-in-summer lives up to its name with a cooling, luminous effect in hot, dry parts of the garden.
