Planting Instructions Strawberry ‘Maxim’ – Fragaria – Bare Roots
As the Strawberry ‘Maxim’ is supplied as a bare-root plant, it is important to take good care of the roots before planting.
- Preparation: Plant the bare-root plant as soon as possible after receiving it. If you cannot plant it immediately, store the roots temporarily in a cool place and make sure they do not dry out.
- Preparing the roots: If the roots have become slightly dry, soak them in lukewarm water for approximately 1–2 hours before planting.
- Choosing a location: Choose a sunny spot with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Strawberries do not like to have wet feet for prolonged periods.
- Digging the planting hole: Dig a spacious planting hole where the roots can extend downwards easily without being bent.
- Planting correctly: Carefully spread out the roots and cover them with soil. The crown of the strawberry plant, where the roots and leaves meet, should remain exactly at soil level. Do not plant too deeply.
- Plant spacing: Keep approximately 25–30 cm between plants. When planting in multiple rows, a distance of approximately 50–60 cm between the rows is recommended.
- Watering: Water thoroughly immediately after planting so that the soil settles well around the roots. Keep the soil slightly moist during the first few weeks.
- After planting: Once the plant becomes established, new leaves will appear and the strawberry will continue developing into a strong plant. Provide extra water during dry periods.
Planting tip: If the bare-root plant is still very small, you can remove the first flowers that appear. This allows the plant to focus its energy on developing a strong root system first.
Delivery
This product is supplied as a bare-root plant. This means that you will receive the plant without a pot or potting soil, but with a healthy and well-developed root system. At first, the bare-root plant may look small and simple. This is completely normal. After planting, the plant will develop new roots and leaves and grow into a strong strawberry plant.
One of the main advantages of bare-root plants is that they can be supplied in a compact and lightweight form and can quickly adapt to their new growing location after planting. With sufficient water and a sunny spot, the Elsanta can develop well and grow into a productive strawberry plant.
