      Planting bergenia

The best location for planting is in the full sun or partial shade. The more sun it gets, the more abundantly it blooms. This easy care garden plant needs little attention and grows well in soil types commonly found in most gardens. Though it will positively thrive when planted in nutritious, moist, humus-rich soil. Bergenia grows slowly and certainly will not cause problems with over-proliferation. Weeds do not get even stand a chance with this excellent ground cover which naturally inhibits their growth. Combine your plants with geranium, lungwort, ferns, daylilies, vinca, liriope, tussock grass, comfrey and boxwood to create a full, eye-catching border. You can propagate it using its rhizomes, allowing you to multiply this plant easily. Planted in a beautiful location bergenia will truly come into its own in any garden.

      Pruning bergenia

Pruning bergenia could not be easier. In March remove damaged or dead leaves as soon as there is no longer chance of frost. Come June, cut off the faded stalks of this practically maintenance-free garden plant.
