Camellia japonica

Camellia japonica is a very popular spring flowering species that flowers in March and April. This evergreen shrub provides beautiful cut flowers and is also excellent as a container plant. Not all species are winter hardy, making it easier for you to bring the plants inside to protect them from harsh weather if needed. Prune the plants after flowering, but only if needed and not too rigorously. In early summer, fertilise the plants with an organic fertiliser for acid-loving plants, for example, Rhododendron & Azalea-AZ Manure 1 kg - Ecostyle.

Camellia sasanqua

Camellia sasanqua has smaller leaves than the japonica and blooms in autumn, flowering from December to January, with breathtaking pink flowers. This evergreen ornamental shrub is beautiful is a stunning container plant and well suited placed on the terrace or planted in a sheltered spot in the partial shade in the garden. Sasanqua is a slow growing plant and therefore does not need to be rigorously pruned - a light pruning after flowering in spring is sufficient to keep the plant looking beautiful.

All Japanese Camellia species are acid-loving plants and do not tolerate drought. Please ensure that the soil does not dry out. If possible, water the plants with rainwater, because tap water often contains a lot of lime. Fertilize the plants with an organic fertiliser for acid-loving plants, for example, Rhododendron & Azalea-AZ Manure 1 kg - Ecostyle once a year (after flowering) and regularly add a few handfuls of garden peat to container plants. Japanese Camellia is for sale online in the UK.
