Wisteria propagation

Wisteria is easy to propagate by cuttings. The best time to propagate wisteria is from May to June. Take a cutting from a young piece of wood. Plant the cutting in a pre-prepared propagation mix, or make a soil mixture using two parts of peat to 1 part of sand. Score the bottom of the cutting, push it into the mixture and dampen the soil. Then be patient; it will be a long time before a cutting grows into a beautiful, flowering plant. It will take between four to six years until the cutting grows into the overwhelmingly brilliant flowerer that you can imagine. In addition to taking cuttings, you can propagate wisteria through grafts, seeds or layering.

Pruning Wisteria

The best moment for you to prune your Wisteria is during the summertime or early spring. Wisteria blossoms grow on the short offshoots from the main branches. Cut off the side offshoots in summer. In spring you can cut these branches back even further for the second pruning.
