Planting Instructions Acanthus mollis
- Choose the right location: Plant the Acanthus in a sunny to partially shaded spot. A sheltered location is ideal.
- Prepare the soil: Make sure the soil is fertile and well-drained. Loosen the soil thoroughly beforehand and remove any weeds.
- Plant the Acanthus: Dig a planting hole approximately twice as wide as the root ball. Place the plant at the same depth as it was growing in the pot.
- Allow sufficient space: Maintain a planting distance of approximately 60–80 cm to give the plant enough room to develop.
- Watering: Water generously after planting. Keep the soil slightly moist during the initial period, but avoid leaving the roots in waterlogged soil for long periods.
- Fertilizing: In spring, you can optionally apply organic fertilizer to support growth and flowering.
- Winter protection: Acanthus is reasonably winter hardy. During severe frost, you can protect the plant with a layer of leaves or other protective covering.
